Transsiberian Mainline

The Transsiberian Line is the Key Link
between Transport Systems of Europe and Asia

The Transsiberian Mainline is a high capacity double track electrified line, about 10,000 kilometers long, technically capable of carrying up to 100 million tons of cargo per year including up to 140,000 TEU transit containers from the countries of the Asian and Pacific region to Europe and Central Asia.

The Transsiberian Mainline has been included into the projects which are being developed by the UN EEC, the UN ESCAP and of OSZD as one of the priority routes linking Europe and Asia.

The railway stations at the border of Mongolia, China and of the Korean Peoples Democratic Republic have been rebuilt, the railway approaches to the sea ports have been modernized, the container terminals all along the TSR are being modernized to meet international standards in terms of handling 20’ and 40' TEU containers. At the present there are 36 stations located along the Transsiberian Mainline, laid out with special equipment for handling containers including 13 terminals for handling 40' containers.

The present trend of development of trade and economic relations between the countries of Europe and of the Asian and Pacific region shows potentials to increase the traffic volumes of cargo in containers via the Transsiberian Mainline.
