As of 1st January 2011, Multimodal Transport Equipment GmbH and InterRail Transport GmbH will merge into InterRail Logistics GmbH. The new headquarters will be in Frankfurt/Main. The Multimodal subsidiary in Berlin, Grünauer Street, remains and will also become part of InterRail Logistics. The name Multimodal will only be used as a product name for intermodal container transportation, including combined short sea/rail transport. The merger of Multimodal and InterRail Transport is part of a general restructuring of the international InterRail Group, specialized in CIS railway transport and with subsidiaries or branches in Germany, Switzerland, the CIS countries as well as in Iran and China. Within this framework, the business of InterRail AG, St. Gallen, will be transferred to the new company, InterRail Logistics GmbH, too. “The goal of this restructuring is to be able to offer our clients more flexibility with regard to their requirements, and to offer a complete service, all from one source, for rail transports to and from CIS countries. Our clients will also benefit from the fact that we can now bundle know-how, competence and experience from the various companies and produce more efficiently through these new structures”, says Volker Schliesche, Managing Director of the new InterRail Logistics and previously Manager of Multimodal, explaining the changes. “After the global crisis and ensuing recession, the market for rail transportation with CIS countries currently shows double-digit growth. Our team has adapted itself to the thus growing demands”, he underlines. InterRail Logistics focuses mainly on transport logistics in rail traffic with CIS and Far Eastern destinations. The company is a neutral provider of services for rail traffic. This includes container shipments and conventional transports in single wagon traffic and project forwarding, from East to West and vice versa. The package of services contains freight rates non-stop, document handling, pre- and on-carriage of rail traffic, tracking and tracing, provision of containers and comprehensive, individual services for the clients.
